How long have you been in the industry? 29 years!
Your favourite things: Liverpool FC, Walking the dog and being with my wonderful wife (she wrote this!) and children, container spotting.
Pet Hates: Football teams that are not Liverpool FC, container scammers, losing a sale
Favourite thing about working for 3J: After so many years of being in the industry I still really love the kick of getting a sale! I enjoy seeing the finished product of complex fabrication works that often have taken months in the planning before an order is placed and I love getting out and meeting people.
A little about me: Hi, I am Gordon. I run 3J Services with my wife, Laura. I have been in the container business for some time and had lots of different sales and management roles. I have worked for an international hire firm managing their fabrication yard and assisting with the distribution of units to all other depots, I have been a sales manager and a fabrication manager too. Outside of the container industry I have also had a few roles at plant hire companies and crane companies – this has given me a varied knowledge that suits the container industry perfectly.
I enjoy solving problems, often people think their situation will be a first for us but it rarely is! I consider many of our suppliers my friends after having worked with them for so long, I like to go out and see both suppliers and customers and pride myself on building relationships. Outside of work, I go to the gym and enjoy keeping myself fit with our little dog (otherwise known as my princess!) Tripp who you might see on our social media from time to time. I love most sport but mainly football and F1. I get to see Liverpool as often as I can but that seems to be getting harder these days so I have to settle for it on the TV!
I struggle to sit still so I am always on the go, doing bits and pieces around the house, mowing lawns in our local community or doing ‘one last job’ for work. I’ve always enjoyed work but I love what we have built with our company, I’m exceptionally proud of it and we are all willing to go the extra mile.
How long have you been in the industry? 19 years!
Your favourite things: Yoga, Cooking and going out for nice food and being with family and the dog.
Pet Hates: Whistling, container scammers, oysters!
Favourite thing about working for 3J: Using my knowledge and expertise to help a customer achieve their vision and saving a little money along the way. I also love it when a customer is not optimistic about getting a container in to place and we manage to pull it off.
A little about me: Hi, I am Laura. I run 3J Services with my husband, Gordon. We both have a wealth of experience in the container industry in all kinds of different areas. I have known many of our suppliers for almost 20 years and I really enjoy nurturing those relationships and working together to make sure we deliver a good product and keep our assurances! I have escaped the industry once or twice in my career but I always come back, I just don’t think you can beat it. I enjoy meeting and speaking to lots of different people and helping them to solve their problems, which can actually be quite diverse.
Outside of work, I volunteer with our local council and work hard in trying to represent my local community at grassroots level, I also volunteer with our local school. I love good food and enjoy cooking – there is always something being cooked or baked in our house, I also really enjoy good and exciting food and I am known for hunting down great eateries wherever I go. We enjoy camping and going on holiday and I enjoy taking some time out once a week for yoga. I am a real history buff and completed a degree in local history followed by a Masters in History with the Open University, I keep threatening to do my doctorate but being a busy Mommy of a wonderful little girl, I don’t think I’ll get around to it just yet! We have a lovely little pooch called Tripp who has become our office dog and enjoys a little mooch around the yard…we strongly recommend drivers and visitors to the office bring treats for the dog and biscuits for me to ensure excellent service!
How long have you been in the industry? 13 years!
Your favourite things: My husband Dave, our two dogs Olive and Shelby and cat Purdy, going to gigs and festivals, our campervan, going on long walks, exploring historical sites and reading.
Pet Hates: Irritating noises such as whistling, chewing and people talking loudly on their phones.
Favourite thing about working for 3J: It’s a family business, and so I’m very passionate about it going from strength to strength. I work for my sister and brother-in-law and it’s very relaxed and easy going; we work very well together. For years I worked in the container industry as a marketeer and designer, and although I still do that for 3J, I’ve added admin and stock control to my repertoire. I’ve heard certain industry terms throughout the years without fully understanding them, so it’s great to learn the other side of the industry from ‘old hands’ Laura and Gord (hehehe). I love putting the case studies together for the website, in the past I only saw the end results, but nowadays I’m aware of the job from the beginning and it makes it so much better.
A little about me: Hi, I am Soph and I’m not only responsible for attracting new customers via the website and social media accounts, but I also make sure our containers are where they are supposed to be and liaise between customers, suppliers and depots. I love seeing the more creative side of the container industry and we’ve worked on some incredible conversion projects for our customers.
Like Laura, I escaped the industry for some time, but now I’m back and love it. Outside of work I have various volunteer roles – Explainer for English Heritage at Wall Roman Site, Social Media Secretary for Staffordshire Archaeological & Historical Society, and also help the Tamworth & Lichfield branch of the RNLI out with some of their design work. I love watching live music with my husband and our friends, and for many years we were also in a band together as well as running a record label, but I prefer being in the audience nowadays.
We go on lots of adventures in our yellow T4 VW campervan, and our dogs Olive and Shelby love jumping in the back and coming with us. We have a lot of friends who have vans and tents, and we all love getting together. I recently started seeing a personal trainer, and have become a real gym lover which I never thought would happen. I’m also a good food and wine lover, so hopefully the gym will start to pay off!
We have 70+ combined years experience in the container industry, with a focus on excellent customer service. We have worked with our suppliers and hauliers for many years and they too understand the quality of service we expect.
