The Brief
Our customer, a pipework specialist based in London, needed a practical and secure way to store long, heavy pipework materials.
The Challenge
While a standard shipping container offered the security they required, it created a significant loading problem. With access only through the standard cargo doors at the end of the container, loading and unloading lengthy sections of pipework was both time-consuming and labour-intensive. The process required additional machinery and manpower, increasing operating costs every time materials were moved. The customer needed a solution that would allow full-length side access, making the handling of heavy pipework quicker, safer and more efficient.
Our Solution
After discussing the customer’s requirements, we recommended a 40ft High Cube Side Loading Container. Unlike a standard shipping container, this specialist unit features full-length concertina doors along one 40ft side, as well as traditional cargo doors at one end. This provides complete flexibility, allowing long materials to be loaded directly from the side or through the end when required. Although side loading containers command a higher purchase price than standard containers due to their specialist design, the benefits far outweighed the initial investment for this customer.
The Result
By switching to a 40ft side loading container, the customer dramatically simplified their loading and unloading process. Full side access meant heavy pipework could be handled far more efficiently, reducing reliance on expensive lifting equipment and minimising manual handling. The result was a safer, faster and more cost-effective storage solution that continues to save both time and money on a daily basis.
Side loading containers are available in both 20ft and 40ft lengths, they are only usually available as new (once shipped) because when people get hold of them they tend to solve a problem and therefore are retained, they really are an impressive piece of kit!
